On June 5, 2008 at meeting of the Juan de Fuca Parks Commission Michael Galizio, Rob Vanveen and SEAS President Dominique Bernardet reported to the Commission on the progress of the community compromise agreement with the adjacent landholder. Included in that agreement is a 3-4 km trail to be dedicated via a statutory right of way to the CRD. In addition, the trails, as discussed with the Parks Commission, would be managed by the Lighthouse Society. At the Parks Commission meeting two motions were passed:
To provide copies of another stewardship agreement to the Society as an example of how the relationship might be structured.
To direct staff to draft a stewardship agreement with the Lighthouse Society and begin negotiations as to the details of the agreement to manage the trail.
Since that time the Society Executive has been meeting with individuals who may be able to help guide volunteer efforts to maintain the trail once the agreement takes effect.
