Welcome to the Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society
"A Lighthouse is a beacon of hope;
a symbol of human Solidarity." Gary Geddes, BC poet & author
The Sheringham Point Lighthouse is located in Shirley, British Columbia, Canada, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island - an exposed section of the Juan de Fuca Strait, pounded by westerlies in the summer and easterlies in winter. To assist the shipwrecked during these storms, the West Coast Trail was built. It is hiked every year by thousands of people from all over the world.
The Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society is dedicated to preserving and protecting the Sheringham Point Light house and other significant foreshore properties in Shirley. The Society's mission is to is document and recognize the historic importance of the lighthouse and to ensure that the lighthouse and its historic route remain accessible.

Because the light station and land has now been declared surplus, the Federal Government follows a land disposal regime.
The property will be offered to Federal agencies, Provincial Ministries and local governments. The process also includes a special consultation with First Nations before any disposal of the property can occur.
While the decision was long awaited, it is a double edged sword -- the land and light station can also be sold to the highest bidder including private owners and developers.
The Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society was established in 2003. The Society is incorporated under the Society Act of British Columbia, File #S47588 - May 17, 2004. The Society is registered as a charity by the Canada Revenue Agency, #858885940RR0001, July 29, 2004.
