LIGHTHOUSE LAND DECLARED SURPLUS

FEBRUARY 5, 2010, Vancouver Island:  The CRD and the Society received letters from Public Works Canada indicating that the light station and surrounding land have been declared surplus.  The decision by Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) paves the way for a long process of notices, consultation with First Nations and negotiations with interested parties for the land and the light station.  More information will be provided at the upcoming meeting.

LIGHTHOUSE VIEW TRAIL

As a result of the community compromise agreement with the developer of the land adjacent to the lighthouse, the Society negotiated a loop trail over private property with views of the lighthouse, the west coast and through a beautiful forest.    Located at the end of Sheringham Point Road with a small adjacent parking area, the trail head leads to the Sheringham Point Lighthouse View Trail.  This 3 plus kilometer trail is open from dawn to dusk and available year round.  Please click here  LIGHTHOUSE VIEW TRAIL and find more information about the loop trial.
